How to set up automatic email forwarding in cPanel. Automatic forwarding of email messages through cPanel is an essential function for optimizing communication and efficient message management.
This can be implemented quickly and without advanced technical knowledge, directly from the cPanel panel.
What does email forwarding mean?
Email forwarding (email forwarder) is a functionality that allows automatic sending of messages received on one email address to another address.
This is useful if you want to centralize all messages in a single mailbox or if you manage multiple domains.
Advantages of email forwarding
- Centralizing messages in a single account
- Forwarding emails to multiple recipients
- Creating alias-type addresses without consuming server space
How to set up automatic email forwarding?
Step 1: Authentication in cPanel
Access your cPanel account, usually at the address https://your-domain.com:2083, and enter the authentication credentials provided by your hosting service.
Step 2: Accessing the “Forwarders” section
In the cPanel interface, look for the Email section and click on the Forwarders option.
This is the area dedicated to email forwarding.
Step 3: Adding a new forwarding rule
In the “Forwarders” page, click on the Add Forwarder button.
Complete the following fields:
- Address to Forward – enter the part of the email address before @ (ex:
contact). - Domain – select the domain for which the forwarding is created.
- Forward to Email Address – enter the destination address where messages will be forwarded.
After completion, click on Add Forwarder to save the changes.
Step 4: Verifying the forwarding
After saving, the new rule will appear in the forwarders list.
You can send a test email to the forwarded address and verify if it reaches the destination address.
Step 5 (optional): Global forwarding for domain
cPanel also allows creating a domain-level forwarding.
Instead of specifying an individual address, you can choose the Add Domain Forwarder option and forward all addresses to another domain or unique email.
How to delete or edit a forwarding rule
In the “Forwarders” section, locate the rule you want to modify or remove and use the Delete option next to it.
Security considerations
- Avoid forwarding to unsecure external addresses.
- Do not use forwarding for sensitive or confidential emails without additional encryption.
- Periodically verify that destination addresses are active and functional.
